Most Barn Finds in Japan ask you to poke around a bit, but the 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Evolution makes you work before the search even starts. If you're spending time clearing events, collecting stamps, and saving your FH6 Credits for bigger garage plans, this is a nice free pickup that won't drain anything except a few minutes of driving. The catch is simple: the Montero Evolution rumor does not appear straight away. You need progress first, and plenty of players miss that part.

Unlocking the rumor first

The key requirement is the Orange Stamp from the Discover Japan progression system. Until you've earned that stamp, don't bother sweeping the mountains and back roads for the barn marker. It won't be there. Once the Orange Stamp is in your collection, the game adds the rumor area to your map, and then the hunt becomes much more direct. It's a small gate, but it matters, especially if you're trying to grab every hidden car in order rather than wandering around and hoping for the best.

Where to drive in Shimanoyama

The Montero Evolution is tucked away in Shimanoyama, over on the western side of the Japan map. Aim for the eastern part of that region and look for the road with a tight set of uphill hairpins. You'll know the section when you see it. The turns come one after another, and the road climbs fairly quickly. Push up to the top of those bends, then slow down once the road starts to flatten out. From there, watch the east side of the road for a dirt trail branching away from the tarmac. That's your turn.

Finding the barn off the main road

Take the dirt path and follow it downhill. There's no need to overthink this part. The track is short, and the barn comes up pretty quickly if you took the right entrance. If you've been bouncing along the dirt road for ages, you probably turned off too early or too late. Head back to the top of the hairpin climb and check again. A rally-tuned car helps, but you don't need anything fancy. Even a basic off-road build will handle the slope without much drama.

Why this Barn Find is worth the stop

The 1997 Montero Evolution isn't built to embarrass supercars on a straight. Its 126.5 mph top speed and 7.51-second run to 60 mph make that clear. What it does offer is proper four-wheel-drive usefulness, 276 hp, and an 8.0 Offroad rating in D class, which gives it a real place in dirt and cross-country events. For collectors, it's also one more piece of Mitsubishi rally history parked in the garage for free. If you're comparing it with other Forza Horizon 6 Cars, think of it less as a headline machine and more as a dependable tool for rougher routes.
